HYDERABAD: Congress MLAs P. Janardhan Reddy and P. Shankar Rao have criticised the Chief Minister’s political adviser, K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao, for what they called “undermining the party’s interests” by getting disciplinary action initiated against committed partymen.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, they said APCC president K. Keshava Rao was not in favour of issuing a show cause notice to one of them (Dr. Shankar Rao) but was prevailed upon to do so by Mr. Ramachandra Rao.

Show-cause notice

The dissident MLAs, who have been targeting Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Dr. Keshava Rao for denying them Cabinet berths, changed tack on Monday and pointed an accusing finger at Mr. Ramachandra Rao.

They alleged that the Chief Minister’s adviser, who was earlier scheduled to accompany Dr. Reddy on his US visit, cancelled his tour only to influence Dr. Keshava Rao to issue the notice.

Referring to Dr. Keshava Rao’s statement in a Telugu TV channel that difference of opinion did not amount to dissidence, they said it went to show that the APCC chief was sympathetic to the issues raised by them.

They were openly airing their views as they had every right to express displeasure over the Chief Minister’s performance and because they were not being invited to the party meetings.

Contention

They said it was not clear in what capacity Mr. Ramachandra Rao attended the meeting.

They said their contention was proved by the fact that the notice was served on Dr. Shankar Rao a day after the AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, left Hyderabad.

They claimed that they had been deliberately kept out of the APCC meet held at Srikakulam and the one held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday to discuss arrangements for the re-dedication day function on May 14.
